Hey friends! I know you haven't seen a lot of me around here lately...and I am almost ready to reveal the B-I-G news that I have been working on behind the scenes. Not quite yet though.

I'm excited to share this really fun ClippyArt for a beach themed bedroom, Emily's bedroom. Emily lives in beautiful Hawaii, so I really wish I could hand deliver this order!

I added a "sandy" monogram to complete the beach feel for this custom order. This was a custom order for her birthday so, Happy Birthday Sweet Emily!

I love the idea of a beach themed room for a little girl...do your kids' rooms have themes?

Invitation: Dimple Prints on Etsy

Birthday Girl's Outfit: Preppy Poppy Shirt-personalized with a 2, Preppy Poppy Hair Bow, Tutu by Mom

She got so many compliments on her party outfit! The shirt...super duper cute! I asked Angela at Preppy Poppy to make a shirt rather than a onesie, and use the 'boy colors' to match the party. I also had it personalized with her age rather than her initial. The tutu...my goal in making her tutu was for it to last through the party, it didn't have to be structurally sound. I was definitely experimenting a bit, but love how it turned out. Luckily, Kara at Jensen Haus Designs, was sweet enough to sew the waistband for me. It turned out great for the party, certainly not perfect, and it's a fun dress-up accessory now that the party is over.

Decor: Banner by Mom, Balloons, flowers, balls...everything was bright primary colors.

Food, mostly balls: Meatballs, Clementines, Cheese Ball with Crackers, Cheese Puffs, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Salad...it was kind of a random mix, but turned out to be great munchie food and very kid friendly!

Favors: Hi-Bounce Balls from Amazon, Beaded Necklaces from Party City

Dessert: Cake Balls, Candy Sushi

I really wish I had a close-up of the Candy Sushi, it was so fun to look at and eat. I was very surprised at how excited even the adults were to try the candy sushi. Bakerella's Red Velvet Cake Balls were a hit! The only glitch was that I hoped to color them the party colors, but it didn't work out, so I made almost all of them chocolate instead. Most importantly, the birthday girl had a great day celebrating with family and friends...so, so blessed.

More Handmade Businesses Giving Back

I am very excited to share with you even more handmade businesses that are giving back...click on their links to check them out!

Sophie and Lili, along with several other handmade businesses are donating a portion of proceeds through the end of January to Hot Cocoa for Water...I know my son would love to set-up a Hot Cocoa stand help other kids just like him have safe water to drink, and my daughter would love a Sophie and Lili Doll-they're so adorbs!

Kayteedids Couture donated 50% of their profits from October 2010 to CureSearch, which raises money to find cures for childhood cancer. Any charity dealing with children really speaks to us as moms, but childhood cancer is especially hard to see any child endure. Kate from Kayteedids was really motivated by Eve's story.

Creations by Crista Marie chooses a different charity to support monthly in a feature called Creations With a Cause! A portion of Decembers profits will help support MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndromes) Foundation .

Destination Diva supports the Susan G. Komen Foundation by donating 30% of profits from sales of her Patsy Necklace . In addition, Destination Diva has also supported the Pink Ribbon Boutique.

Stitches by Sara is giving back to a family that needs financial support to adopt a child. I heard of this heart warming story from Crystal, and I am so glad she shared it with me. An incredible 100% of proceeds will help this family achieve their goal of adopting a child.

Thanks to these wonderful women owned brands that are giving back this holiday season and all year round.

Handmade Businesses are Giving Back

Last year at this time Sweet Harper, still a fresh little baby of a shop, was giving back to my local community. For every sale during the holiday season in 2009, I donated hair clips to the Lewis House, a local emergency crisis shelter for women and children that are trying to get out of an abusive situation. This year, since my shop has only been {re}open for a short time, I decided to give back in a different way...but first, here are a couple other handmade businesses that are also giving back!

Shey B. is donating 20% of each sale through January 1st, 2011 to Reece's Rainbow. It is too late for the holiday deadline to get yourself a Shey B. product in time for Christmas, but you can still order something and feel great about giving too ;-). Read more about Shey's giving on her blog, it's truly a very touching story!

Mela Kamin has another inspirational story. Actually, her children do. They are working together to sell Yo-Yo hair clips and raise money for World Vision. So far they have raised enough to give 2 goats, and are working for more!!! You can read all about these inspiring kids (and see cute pictures of them creating the clips) by visiting Mela's blog.

So, how is Sweet Harper giving back?

Sweet Harper is hosting an online auction...but I won't be offering hair clips. I am auctioning off a tweet. For those of you that are not on Twitter, this may seem a little crazy, but I am coming up on my 10,000th tweet. I want to mark this milestone in a really unique way, so I am hosting an auction to purchase this very special tweet. ALL of the proceeds will go to charity.

How does this work? You bid. I tweet. Whatever you want (as long as it's family friendly, my approval is required).

Open for Business: Sweet Harper Re-Opens on Big Cartel

I have had many inquiries (ok, maybe just Tiffany from Mom Nom bugging me over and over again) wondering when the Sweet Harper shop would be open once again. Well, I am happy to say...

Sweet Harper is OPEN!

However, it may look a little different. I recently switched from Etsy to a different type of online marketplace called Big Cartel. I am not going to go into all the details of why (Gussy does a great job of that here), but I want to say that the biggest reason came down to the seller fees. Which means, I am able to pass those savings along to you! You will notice the prices in my all new Sweet Harper shop are lower than when I sold on Etsy. Don't get me wrong, I big-fat-heart Etsy and have purchased four items from other Etsy shops in the last week alone. However, I just felt this was the right move for Sweet Harper.

I have not been promoting my new shop because it's not completely full, but a few people picked-up on the fact that I have new diggs...and the clips are flying out the door! The holiday ones are going especially quick, so get your orders in! By the way, all items are ready to ship, and will be mailed (via standard mail) by next business day. I did take a small break after Sweet Harper Holidays...whew, that was a LOT of posting. However, I'm back today with a new Sweet Shop that I absolutely adore! Pixie Chicago has stationary that is so fresh and modern.

Love the colors, the layouts, and the fonts! Being that I'm a Twitter, Gtalk, and Texting addict...I am in love with the a text set from Pixie Chicago...

I also ordered a few of these for girlfriends for Christmas...so fun (and practical), right?

No one usually talks New Year's Resolution's until January, but I am starting a new trend. I have already decided my New Year's Resolution is to send thank you notes. Thank You's used to be a favorite for me, but since having kids, I have gotten way lazy about sending them! So, I'm bringing it back in 2011...the year of the Thank You note!

The uber-creative mom behind Lehla Shop is always thinking up something new! She does many custom items including tutu birthday outfits and superhero shirts with your child's initial. The superhero shirts were recently spotted on Tori Spellings littles Liam and Stella!!!

Our favorite from Lehla Shop is the Graffiti Shoes...look at Harper's pair!!!

Lisa personalized them with all of Harper's favorite things (mom sent a list to Lisa at Lehla Shop), sweets, Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba, and all things girlie. I was so impressed when Harper's shoes arrived! Every centimeter of the shoes is painted with fun details in a cool graffiti fashion. She even included Harper's name!

I have my blog set-up so that you don't not have to be a follower or have a blogger account to enter giveaways because I'm nice like that and don't want to exclude anyone. Just remember to leave your e-mail address so I can get in touch with you when you win!

1. You find a giveaway you want to enter...I have plenty going on here.

2. Check out the details of how you enter! Most giveaways will have a 'mandatory entry' and there is a brief explanation of what sort of comment to leave.

Come Back For Christmas

We got a very healthy helping of snow this weekend...and that's enough for me. Can it just come back in time for Christmas?

Too bad for the kids (and teachers) because if it had been a weekday, it would have been a SNOW DAY for sure! It was hard to get our kids to eat breakfast, they were so excited to get out and play.

So...it turns out Harper thought she would like the snow, but enjoyed watching through the door better (maybe, she takes after her mama that way).

Here's a pic I got yesterday morning when the sun was out! The snow looks so beautiful draped on the trees in the sunshine.

Favorite childhood snow memory...I will always remember trick-or-treating during a blizzard in 1991, it was crazy!!!

You know when you just click with someone?

Well, how about four someones?

It may sound crazy to someone who doesn't blog or tweet, but yes, I flew half way across the country to stay with four friends that I had never met in person. Crazy? Not to us! In some way shape or form, I have chatted with at least one of these ladies daily for almost the last year. Also, lucky for me, I live only a few minutes away from Kara (@JensenHaus & @launchHERLaw) so we see each other about once a week.

We are all connected though CupcakeMAG, as writers and collaborators...so Casi (@CupcakeMAG) was all about getting together for a CupcakeMAG Retreat!

Luckily, Angela (@preppypoppy) was sweet enough to host our crazy group, and we felt like home the minute we arrived. She was such a gracious hostess! The best part was that even though we were all coming together as a group for the first time, there was no awkward "getting to know you" phase. We simply started right in chatting, laughing, and enjoying a few glasses of wine. We spent much of the weekend indulging in local cuisine (I tried an oyster for the first time!) and of course...shopping!

It was so hard to say goodbye...there just wasn't enough time.

But there never is, right?

Sweet Tea Dresses is a handmade shop you are probably familiar with if you have been reading Sweet Harper for a while now! Sweet Tea Dresses was one of the first Sweet Shops ever featured, and they have been a Sweet Harper sponsor for a while now.

You will fall instantly in love with this shop, just a caution! Sweet Tea Dresses started as pillowcase dresses and has evolved into aprons, jumpers, pillowcases, bibs, and monogrammed burp cloths.

I adore that these dresses are so sweet and feminine. Harper has worn her Sweet Tea Dress several times and when I put it on her recently to take a few pictures, she started running around all giddy and looking at herself in the full length mirror. I also love that the dresses can be worn with a shirt and leggings or tights underneath for the chilly days. Harper will wear hers again in a few weeks at Thanksgiving.

Out of Office Reply for Sweet Harper

Hey friends...I am officially OUT! I am on my way to meet-up with some of my favorite ladies that I have met through Sweet Harper, Blogging, and Twitter! I will miss Sweet Harper's Daddy and my kids like CR-AZY, but I also know that a weekend away is good for us moms every once in a while.

Not that Sweet Harper's Daddy can't handle me going away for the weekend, but just to be sweet, I have stocked the fridge with some healthy, ready to grab snacks. See Exhibit A.

I also picked-up a special gourmet lunch for them to have one of the days while I'm gone. (He wouldn't admit it to you guys, but they are Dad's favorites...the kids could care less.) See Exhibit B.

So, my suitcase is packed! I am attempting only a carry-on. See Exhibit C.

Of course I will be back bright and early Monday with the first Sweet Harper Holidays feature, don't forget to come by!

2. Go during work hours...remember that your place of business HAS to give you time off to vote (tell them Sweet Harper said so, if they need a source). Seriously though, I looked into it and the law varies by state, but here's one site I found that was helpful.

3. When all else fails...tote the kids along with you. Just remember to grab a huge handful of Halloween candy for them to munch on while they wait! Keep in mind that seeing you vote is a great teachable moment for kids.

I won't get into any partisan issues, but I will say one thing...please vote to support your local schools! We have a referendum on the ballot here. Keep in mind that federal funding for education is falling flat and/or decreasing in most areas. The gap has to be made up, and I know as a teacher, we have had to start asking students to bring in more supplies (printer paper, tissues, etc) because of decreasing budgets. It's not getting any better.

If you really feel strongly about how school district monies are being allocated then I urge you (rather than just voting no) to get involved by attending school board meetings, pay close attention to who is running for school board, and VOTE! There are real people making decisions that are affecting our kids and their education, is there any better reason to get involved?

My husband's favorite is the Robot, but I am partial to the orange diner. Gregg definitely has an eye for capturing emotion and feeling in objects that may seem like "everyday ordinary". You can see more on the process that goes into each piece here. I was in awe as I read that article at all the steps that go into each work of art, plus you get to see some pics of the studio-cool! The process of layering the colors to produce the intricate images is a technique that is totally unique to Gregg. Although he was schooled in "classical oil painting", he also dabbled in graffiti, and has a love for graphic design. "It's a culmination of all of my artistic experiences into one," said Gregg of his creative process.

The inspiration for this post came from my friend Angela, at Preppy Poppy...she recently wrote on twitter:

Lucky Dam: His Words, Not Mine

Last weekend we took the kids to St. Anthony Falls in downtown Minneapolis. It is such a beautiful and historic part of town that is seeing a huge contemporary revival, I just love it!

Anyhoo...we noticed there were some boats about to go through the Lock and Dam, so we waited and watched. It's a long process, if you've ever seen it, you know. If you have no clue what I am talking about, here's a helpful link!

The doors started closing...

there. Now, it can fill up with water so the boats up top can drive in.

See the teeny-tiny boats in the middle behind the yellow bars? Notice the water level is flush.

Lastly, they drain all the water out, so the boats can drive out and they are at the bottom of the falls.

All that work for those 3 little boats...yep!

Of course, our 4 year old thought it was the coolest thing ever!
He was excited to tell Grandpa (because grandpas think stuff like that is cool) and he told him... "we saw a lucky dam."

Already Dreading Tonight's Homework?

Here's a follow-up to yesterday's post Healthy Homework Habits Start Early...

When you are really frustrated over homework, there is always an easy out..."if you finish your homework, you can have __________."

Now, don't get me wrong, I am a-okay with a bribe every now and then (I do carry two suckers in a secret pocket of my purse in case the situation should warrant). However, bribery is not the best solution when it comes to homework, because homework will be there as long as they're in school.

It can be helpful, instead, to set-up a reward system. You may be wondering what the difference is between a reward and a bribe. A reward is earned for hard work over a period of time, and a bribe is given immediately for a short term result. Sticker charts are a great way to work towards a reward because they are very visual, the child can get motivated and see their progress.

It is important to consider the age of the child when you are designing their homework chart. The younger the child, the shorter the length of time before they earn a reward-or they will lose interest. Then, you can slowly increase the number of stickers they have to earn as they get into a routine.

For example, with my four year old, I would start out with him earning 4 stickers. It's easy to start with their age, because that makes it more personal. Also, he only goes to preschool two days a week. So if it were many more stickers than that, it would take him forever (or what feels like forever to a four year old) to earn his reward.

Before your child begins the chart, sit down and be clear about the expectations of how they will earn a new sticker. This will of course depend on the child's age again. It may be as simple as you earn a sticker every night after you complete your homework. Or you can make it more complex for an older child, or more specific if there is a subject they really do not enjoy.

You can get fancy and print out a chart with separate boxes to place each sticker into, or just write their goal at the top of a piece of paper and place it on the fridge. You also don't have to use stickers. Your child could fill in their chart with hand drawn stars or smiley faces, or use stamps and stamp pads.

The REWARD! Once they have earned the set number of stickers for their positive homework behavior, it's time to receive their reward. I avoid giving candy or food as a reward. I don't want to start unhealthy associations with food...the food we are surrounded by is already unhealthy enough. (And in my classroom, when I taught, candy was not used for rewards either.) I think one of the best rewards is quality time. Some ideas could include, playing your child's favorite game together, taking them to the library without siblings, a bike ride, swimming at the local pool/beach, or going to their favorite fountain to throw in a penny and make a wish. Get creative and give them ideas, you know them better than anyone. However, let your son or daughter choose!

Reward charts can be adjusted as the child grows and changes, but it is always important to keep up your end of the bargain. Charts can also be used for chores, bedtime/morning routines, or behavior. My advice is to once again keep it specific (especially for behavior, don't just make it that they get a sticker for "being good", but rather for a day without hitting) and don't make charts for every single thing, or the chart will lose it's importance. Another goal of using a chart is to focus on the positive rather than get caught up with the negative, so keep it as fun ans relaxed as possible.

Healthy Homework Habits Start Early

I know many parents that endure the nightly homework battle with their kids, and I wish I had a cure all for that. What I can offer is a few tips for the youngest learners to encourage Healthy Homework Habits. Believe me, the expectations you set NOW, will make a big impact later.

1. Set a time and place for homework (and make it a routine)!

2. Have them start the most difficult work first, and finish with the "easiest".

3. Have a basket with the tools they will need (pencils, erasers, calculator, ruler, etc.) and be strict that it's for homework only-not playing!

4. Get them started, but don't sit over them the whole time. Linger in the area doing other things so you are available to answer questions.

5. Focus on them giving their "best" effort, versus getting hung up on "perfect" results.

A fun "game" I always play with young elementary students is I ask them to put a star or smiley face next to their "best" one, and erase and retry the one that "looks sick and needs to go to the doctor"...sounds silly, but it works! This is teaching them to think critically about their own work, which is a skill that will be very important as they get into the upper grades It is also giving them the power to acknowledge their 'not so great' work, rather than feel like mom or dad is always critiquing them.

Woe is Me: My Stay At Home Story

Thank you for the many responses on Twitter and comments on Woe Is ME...and "Stay At Home" Parents Everywhere. I have a few thoughts on being home with my kids...

Since I have been a mother, I have worked part time, worked full time, and stayed at home. Let's just get the BIG elephant in the room out of the way to begin with, shall we? I despise the title "stay-at-home mom". That's just me. When you ask me what I do, I will likely respond, "I am at home with my kids right now" or "I'm at home right now." For those that are at home full time with their kids, we all have a story, or I guess I am assuming we do, of how we became a stay at home parent.

Some days, most days, I get weepy and find myself in awe just watching my kids as they explore something new, or we read books as they pile on my lap, or catch a glimpse of them in the rear-view mirror.

Then, there are other days that I am jealous that my husband gets to "go" to work everyday, stop and grab a coffee if and when he chooses, or be alone with his thoughts as he drives to work [4 year olds never let you be alone with your thoughts, they have WAY too many of their own to share].

Then, because I am a mom, it starts to set in. You know "IT". Mom guilt. We can pretty much make ourselves feel guilty for anything! Right? Right.

The days when I am feeling used and abused*.

I mean, a simple thank you would be nice!

Or at least a hot shower.

Okay, I will just settle for brushed teeth.

It's true, I cannot find time to fit in a simple phone call. Do you know how kids act the minute you get on the phone? I stay up super late, not cleaning my house or preparing meals for the next day, but just doing a few things that I wanna do. Some moms get up early, but I have an early riser, so I'd have to get up super-duper early to enjoy any time for myself.

I'll tell you what I really do look forward to...lunch, coffee, or a drink with a friend. That has become a great way to re-energize when I am feeling all restless. What do you do?

My First & Last Baseball Post...But It's Not Really About Baseball

My husband and I went to a baseball game on Thursday night. The Minnesota Twins are playing The NY Yankees for the National League Division title...ya still with me?

Good.

While at the game, we witnessed a little "competitive team spirit" between a Twins and Yankees fan. Let's just say, I am glad my kids weren't along because there were many not-so-kid-friendly words flying across the seats. It was uncomfortable, and unnecessary.

It didn't take long before I noticed the Twins Fan was trying to make nice with Yankee Guy and his buddies. With what else? Beer. Yep, he sent over a round of beer. As I am sure you can imagine...it worked. It wasn't long before Yankee guy was out of his seat and shaking hands jovially with Twins Fan. Believe it or not, it was kind of a sweet moment. You just don't see that everyday.

See, told you I wasn't going to actually 'talk baseball.'

Like I said, the behavior of the two men was inappropriate, and I am very glad my kids were not along. Have you ever been in an inappropriate situation with your kids at a professional sporting event?

Perfectly Fall

It was a perfectly fall afternoon...warm sun resting on our shoulders, crunching leaves underfoot, and the rich hues of autumn everywhere we looked.

Yes, it even smelled like fall.

We were looking for something. Grandpas are good at helping when you're looking for something.

We met a new friend along the way.

Then, we found "the one."

Imagine the Jack-O-Lantern this could become.

But our shadows were growing longer. It was time to go.

The pumpkin was ready to be loaded; it was a two person job.

We headed back down the road under the canopy of trees. It was a Perfectly Fall day.

Can I Copy Your Answers?

A few weeks ago I had to do an "ice breaker" activity for a new group that I am a part of. There were several fill in the blank questions. I had no problem answering the obvious ones..."where do you live?" etc. But then it got tricky...with questions like "favorite music to put you in a great mood," or "movie that always makes you cry".

I sat there. Kind of blank. Staring at my paper.

Like I was having some sort of out of body experience. I started to think, I could answer these questions for Harper and Jack. No problem! ["We Are the Dinosaurs" by Laurie Berkner...and "Bolt".] However, when I had to start thinking about it in terms of me, then I had to actually THINK about it. It felt strange, like I wasn't sure who I was. Like I had to quick make something up so it wasn't obvious that I was sitting there stumped by my own self.

Being a mother is definitely the most important role I currently do, and for good reason. I stay at home with my kids and they are at ages where they aren't independent yet. Almost ev-er-y-th-ing I do, is for them.
Do I love it? Yes!!!
Do, I need to make time to reconnect with myself and do things that I enjoy? Yes!!!

I distinctly remember having a similar feeling when my first born, Jack, turned one. I woke up and realized that I needed to start doing some things for myself again. I mean, it had been about a year!

Instant To-Do List:

Make appt to get hair done

Go shopping some where other than Target

Meet a friend for drinks and dessert

Read a non-parenting/child/pregnancy book

Sit and watch a RECENT chick flick

I was so caught up with breastfeeding, organic foods, researching safe carseats, daycare interviews, childproofing, and whether or not to ditch the nuk. I was suppressing a bit of me, and it was beginning to show. Not talking about vanity, but just the general "look" of a sane, healthy person versus one that is...not.

Being a mom is such a balancing act. For those of you with one, I hate to be Debbie Downer, but just wait until number two comes along. Holy guacamole, it gets way more difficult then.

Did you have and "ah-ha" moment when you realized that you were so busy taking care of others that you forgot about yourself?

Elmo's Playdate with Katy Perry

You have probably seen the debate over the Elmo and Katy Perry video, and whether or not Katy Perry's dress is too revealing. Sesame Street has decided to pull the segment from the upcoming episode. I was kind of on the fence about it after seeing clips on the news covering the controversy.

Then, I actually sat down and watched the video. There was one glaring difference that I hadn't noticed from watching the news clips. Katy's dress has a nude colored mesh top (like a figure skater costume). You can watch the video for yourself here. Of course we all have our own opinions... as for me, I was not offended. I found her outfit to be playful and fun, not sexy.

On the flip side, we have a strong preference that our young daughter does not wear a two-piece swimsuit. We know she will ASK to wear one eventually (and we will decide at that time), but until then, we are just not doing it. I found the two-piece swimsuit pictured below with a Sesame Street character on Amazon. I wonder how many parents who thought the Katy Perry and Elmo video was inappropriate would also think the same thing about this Sesame Street swimsuit???

My difference of opinion related to these two circumstances involving Sesame Street really illustrates the fact that each family has their own set of values. The most important thing to me is that parents CARE. Whether you like the video, or not. Whether you like the swimsuit, or not. I guarantee, you are a better parent for simply taking the time to form an opinion.

Take it one step further, and discuss it with your significant other. Are you two on the same page? These are good discussions to have now because before you know it, your TEEN will be asking you. As parents, it's better be ready for these conversations and in agreement.

She came down with a cold on Tuesday, so she was clingy and wanting to be held, snuggled, and sweet-talked. Ok, she's 1 going on 2, that is understandable.

Then, her asthma started up-thankyouverymuchasthma-and she woke up waaaay worse the next morning (Wednesday). So, another day of holding, snuggling, and sweet-talking PLUS nebs. Nebulizers (nebs) are those machines where you use a mask to breathe in the medicine-just in case you weren't sure. She got worse so there was a trip to the ped in there too...more meds. Even had to wake her at night to give her nebs. Poor baby.

Today has been more of the same.

Holding.

Snuggling.

Sweet-talking.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Sweet Girl (not that anyone would doubt that), but I am drained from 3 days of being Siamese twins. Not to mention Sweet Hubs was also on a biz trip 2 of those 3 days.

So, is this a long winded excuse as to why my blog has been neglected all week?
Or, maybe a long winded rant, just for the sake of venting?
A little of both, so there.

Is Golf Plaid Still "In"?

I took my very first swing with a golf club recently....and I will admit, I kind of want to do it again.

My husband has been trying to get me to go golfing with him for years, and I have always been WAY too intimidated. But I actually had a few decent hits (is that what you call them?) and sort of enjoyed it. Now, I know it's awfully premature (it really was just a few swings at a driving range) but I think I could

There, I said it.

I do have to say though that a full round of golf takes a lot of time, and I am just not sure I have the patience for it just yet. But I am now open minded to the possibility. Oh, and that also means some shopping for "golf plaid" too, right?

I will admit it. I don't like to fly. It never used to bother me, but then I had one turblent flight and since then I am a white knuckled flyer.

You can imagine how I was feeling about flying the first time with my kids. I was very nervous about how to keep from being the couple with "those kids". You know the ones...crying, kicking the seat in front of them, and throwing their toys (okay, maybe we have a few airborne toys). Plus, trying to figure out how to keep my own nerves in check.

It all began with a move from the US to Hong Kong with a 2 year old and 2 month old...whew! TravelKiddy's Blog is brimming with great, no-nonsense travel tips from a mom who has seen it all.

The Sweet [Etsy] Shop series every Thursday is changing. A few weeks ago, I posted a Linky for readers to add their favorite Etsy shops. Well, a few people started asking...does it HAVE to be an Etsy shop, or just handmade? Of course, I want to see any handmade shop!

So, my regular series is also changing. Now, instead of Sweet [Etsy] Shop, it will just be 'Sweet Shop' and a handmade shop will be featured, regardless of whether or not they're on Etsy. For those of you who are not die-hard handmade buyers and have no clue what the big diff is, there are many sites out there to sell handmade items (Big Cartel, ArtFire, etc.), not just Etsy. I don't want to exclude any fabulous shops!

I do get a lot of e-mails of people asking about how to become a featured 'Sweet Shop'. I choose shops that I love and find unique in one way or another. I am always looking for new shop suggestions, but cannot guarantee a feature. More San Diego!

Ok, sorry for getting Lady Gaga stuck in everyone's head yesterday, but in case you WANT Lady Gaga's Pokerface stuck in your head then read here.

We so enjoyed San Diego! It is such a family friendly, laid back city. Of course we did the obvious tourist "must sees" like Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.

It turned out though, that Jack's (4 years old) favorite part of the trip was touring the USS Midway. He loved getting the chance to be a pilot and climb into all the jets on the flight deck.

Mom and Dad loved...the beach. We weren't wearing anyone in a sling or pushing any strollers, so we could just sit in the sand and watch the kids play.

Did I mention we also got to visit with some "old school" friends? Both Joe and I got a night out with our friends separately, and then on our last evening there...our friends watched the kids so we could have a date-night. Were we lucky or what? We went to a great restaurant called Cafe Sevilla for tapas and wine!

This was after almost a week of living out of a hotel room with two rambunctious kids. Yep, drinks were in order.

Our dream vacay is Hawaii. We were there for our first anniversary, and can't wait to get back there with the kids when they are a bit older.
